If you are a collector of Jazz Albums, like myself, then you are most likely familiar with the artist ‘David Stone Martin.’ Wait…. you’ve never heard of him? Well thats because he left his mark on the jazz culture without ever playing a note!

David Stone Martin was an illustrator with a rare gift for portraiture. With his signature hand sketched graphics in two or three primary colors he perfectly captured the energy and spontaneity of jazz. For over 30 years he was the most sought after illustrator of album covers, creating illustrations for more than 400 records. His work graced the covers of artist such as Stan Getz, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington and many other jazz giants.
