Pantone Color of the Year
Pantone has named its Color of the Year for 2013, and it is Emerald Green. We are very excited about this color making its way to the forefront of design, as it harkens back to the 1980’s “Dynasty” era. Emerald also brings to mind images of grandeur and elegance, and it is one of the highest valued gemstones. Elizabeth Taylor, whose jewelry collection is well-known for its opulence, was known for her love of this precious jewel.
Emerald adds interest and contrast to a room when used in small amounts, or drama and depth when walls are covered in the jewel shade. It looks particularly stunning paired with brass accents, and colors such as lilac, navy and yellow.
Malachite, a mineral that forms rings when it is split, is a perfect representation of how emerald can be found in nature. The Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia houses a room called The Malachite Room, which has to be the most impressive use of this material in interior decor.
So whether you choose to incorporate small accents of this color, or go all out, we hope to see more of this color in the coming year and beyond!
